How we work

Start with the real question, not the polished pitch.

What must be true for this to work? Who must participate? What is each party prepared to own? SJD uses those questions to turn a broad idea into a series of decisions that can be tested.

Development process

Move from assumptions to evidence.

The work begins with what is known, what is merely believed, and which uncertainty is expensive enough to resolve first.

  1. Frame

Name the real problem, the buyer or beneficiary, and why the situation deserves attention now.

  2. Pressure-test

Challenge the demand, cost, timing, regulatory, and operating assumptions that could break the case.

  3. Align

Make incentives, commercial terms, decision authority, and non-negotiable constraints visible.

  4. Build the team

Choose partners for fit, reliability, access, and the work each is prepared to own.

  5. Prove

Design the smallest useful pilot, sourcing test, buyer conversation, or other step that produces evidence.

  6. Commit

Expand only when the facts, counterparties, and expected return justify the next level of exposure.

Team responsibilities

A good team is more than a list of logos.

The right participants bring capability, access, credibility, or resources the situation actually needs. Just as important, their interests and working styles must be compatible.

Responsibilities, decision rights, commercial terms, and approval points are made clear before the work expands. SJD does not need to lead every team to add value.

Judgment under uncertainty

Knowing when to stop is part of the work.

A promising idea does not earn unlimited time or capital. New facts may support a larger commitment, a change in approach, or a clean decision to walk away. Protecting capital, relationships, and reputation matters too.

Make the next decision worth making.

Useful inquiries identify the situation, the people already involved, and the assumption or dependency that is still holding things back.
